The British parliament has been subjected to targeted military attacks that have left lawmakers unable to remotely access their e-mail, The Telegraph newspaper reported.

Authorities discovered unusual activity on computer networks this morning and moved on to take steps to protect them, which appear to include blocking access to systems outside the Westminister Palace. In an e-mail to MPs, the parliamentary authorities said they "confirmed that the pirates are carrying out a constant and firm attack on all user accounts in parliament in an effort to identify weak passwords."

Earlier this week, information on "tens of thousands of government officials" was discovered on the Internet in Russian hacking sites, according to an investigation by The Times. A spokesman for the British House of Commons said the investigation was under way and that they would continue to "take further measures to secure the computer network and contact the National Center for Information Security."
