Heavy rains in central and southern Kenya have caused flash floods and killed more than 100 people since April 2018. In addition to the death tolls, floods have also displaced more than 200,000 people.

The Kenyan red cross called for the flood is a humanitarian crisis that requires emergency funding. Moreover, the floods have caused 15 districts from a total of 47 districts in Kenya to be affected.

"This is a great tragedy for many communities. Those who are victims are powerful people and able to overcome so many difficulties. Kenya Meteorological Agency predicts a rise in rain intensity in western and central Kenya. While other areas of Kenya area rain intensity is still within normal limits.

In March and May or June, eastern African countries experience the rainy season. The second rainy season or known 'little rain' generally occurs in November but heavy rains will then go down very heavily.

Besides Kenya, floods also occur in Uganda and Somalia. The UN estimates half a million people in Somalia, affected by this disaster with nearly 175,000 people forced to flee.
