So what I see happening eventually is a further balkanization of information in our society. Google will become the search engine preferred by the Progressives/ Alt-left, while other search engines will either remain neutral or will optimize themselves to become the search engines of the Conservatives / Alt-right.

Each group will believe that its "information" represents reality, not realizing that its information has been heavily filtered.

Search engines will become the newest version of a media outlet. Right now, if you want liberal viewpoints, read the New York Times -- but understand that they have an ax to grind. In the future, if you want liberal viewpoints, use Google as your search engine -- but understand that they have an ax to grind also.

It's difficult to have productive discussions with people with other viewpoints when you can't agree on any neutral, unbiased reality.
