It seems to me this acquision is a big threat to the democratization of the internet. Microsoft is a profit-driven enterprise and it is natural that they have a will to be/stay a monopoly while independent developers may only want to create benefit to society by publishing their work free and open. I am sure most will not be happy to be contributing to Microsoft.
