The people of Zimbabwe had been on edge since Monday when Chiwenga, Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Force, said he was prepared to step in to end a purge of supporters of sacked vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa a former security chief, nicknamed "The Crocodile," was a favorite to succeed his life-long political dictator but a week ago, he was overthrown to make place for the fifty-two -year old Grace Mugabe, wife of President Robert Mugabe, who has been contesting to succeed her husband as president.

There are no more questions. Authority is now in the hands of the military". Verified reports confirm that Mugabe has negotiated for Grace to leave the country while he prepares to step down.

The Movement for Democratic Change, Zimbabwe's opposition party, called for a peaceful return to constitutional democracy, adding it hoped the military intervention would lead to the "establishment of a stable, democratic and progressive nation-state"
South Africa, southern Africa, and the west are asked to re-engage Zimbabwe, whose economic decline over the past two decades has been a drag on the southern African region.
