The Latvians are nostalgic for the Soviet era. This was in an interview with the local newspaper Latvijas Avize told the former head of the Communist Party of the Latvian SSR, former deputy of the European Parliament Alfred Rubiks.

"People still come up to me and say that in my time they lived better. The ordinary, ordinary person in Soviet times, undoubtedly, lived more easily. People saw a perspective in their lives, looked forward to the future, "Rubiks said.

According to the politician, in modern Latvia people live very poorly if they could not do business. "In those days, we built a thousand apartments a year, which people received free of charge. Who can afford these luxury apartments today? Those who stole or engaged in speculation, which now proudly called the business, "- he said.
At the same time, Rubix drew attention to the fact that "during the Soviet era, people went to Latvia to live and work here, and now they are leaving the country hundreds of thousands."

According to the Central Statistical Office of Latvia, the population of the country since 1990 has decreased from 2.7 million to 1.95 million.
