Researchers into initial cases find first person with symptoms had no contact with market where disease is believed to have originated

The first person known to have been infected by the Wuhan coronavirus had never visited the city’s seafood market

There was also no epidemiological link between the first patient and the later cases, they found.

The first patient to die from the new coronavirus had continuous exposure to the market before he was admitted to hospital with a seven-day history of fever, cough and breathing difficulties, according to their report.
Five days after the onset of symptoms, his wife, a 53-year-old woman with no known history of exposure to the market, also presented with pneumonia and was hospitalised in the isolation ward, they said.
The absence of a link to the seafood market is one of the indicators for human-to-human transmission of the virus and the researchers identified another 13 patients who also had no direct exposure to the market.

This looks like a doomsday scenario from an apocalyptic movie, but there’s NO reason to panic!

BACKGROUND

By Jan 2, 2020, 41 admitted hospital patients had been identified as having laboratory-confirmed 2019-nCoV infection. Most of the infected patients were men (30 [73%] of 41); less than half had underlying diseases (13 [32%]), including diabetes (eight [20%]), hypertension (six [15%]), and cardiovascular disease (six [15%]). Median age was 49·0 years (IQR 41·0–58·0). 27 (66%) of 41 patients had been exposed to Huanan seafood market. One family cluster was found. Common symptoms at onset of illness were fever (40 [98%] of 41 patients), cough (31 [76%]), and myalgia or fatigue (18 [44%]); less common symptoms were sputum production (11 [28%] of 39), headache (three [8%] of 38), haemoptysis (two [5%] of 39), and diarrhoea (one [3%] of 38). Dyspnoea developed in 22 (55%) of 40 patients (median time from illness onset to dyspnoea 8·0 days [IQR 5·0–13·0]). 26 (63%) of 41 patients had lymphopenia. All 41 patients had pneumonia with abnormal findings on chest CT. Complications included acute respiratory distress syndrome (12 [29%]), RNAaemia (six [15%]), acute cardiac injury (five [12%]) and secondary infection (four [10%]). 13 (32%) patients were admitted to an ICU and six (15%) died. Compared with non-ICU patients, ICU patients had higher plasma levels of IL2, IL7, IL10, GSCF, IP10, MCP1, MIP1A, and TNFα.
Interpretation

The 2019-nCoV infection caused clusters of severe respiratory illness similar to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus and was associated with ICU admission and high mortality. Major gaps in our knowledge of the origin, epidemiology, duration of human transmission, and clinical spectrum of disease need fulfilment by future studies.

In This Video, a doctor from Wuhan talks about 90000 people infected and he says the virus has gone trough a mutation, and with at least ninety thousand people infected in that city alone, it makes it more logical why there are already so many city’s in quarantine

Press Conference health minister of France, a new case 48 years old, is now hospitalized in Bordeaux France.

The patient visited Wuhan, and has been in contact with approximately 10 people after returning to France. There’s little known about the patient in Paris (we think that could be the Michelin restaurant hopper)

Stupid people, having disease symptoms are taking anti fever medication to be able to jump the plane to Paris to go and have a good time. Not taking in account, the many people this person could possibly endanger with their stupid, egocentric behavior, especially when you think about the words of warning from the viral expert!

I hope that, humanity realizes that we are all living in an inter connected world, living under the same sun, breathing the same air and we are all humans, made of stardust. And so we are connected

And my initial thought for this post was, where could this go next.

And use the RTS simulation to check what possibly could happen.

And the outcomes are worrying

Especially taking in account that this is a game, where the Plague Inc. developer has spoken at the CDC about how he had modeled the spread of infectious disease inside the game as well as how games like Plague Inc. can be used to inform and educate the public.*

Following the talk, the CDC said that it was interested in Plague Inc. as "it uses a non-traditional route to raise public awareness on epidemiology, disease transmission, and diseases/pandemic information.

The game creates a compelling world that engages the public on serious public health topics".

As you can see we used the approximate location of Wuhan Centre For Disease as ground zero (coincidentally this happened by accidentally) i focused at the start of the game on air transmission of the disease, and that there is no cure.

What shows is a scary prediction of what could happen, if we are not taking any measures.
