Zuckerberg tries to explain away the sunscreen incident

in #news3 years ago

The online world loves or hates "The Zuck," I tend to be on the latter end of that and feel as though his platform, combined with a few others is actually one of the primary reasons that the world and its inhabitants are in such a sad state of affairs right now. The need to be known online has, especially for young people, surpassed the need to have real, meaningful relationships with real people that you know and might be related to you. The fishing for likes has become more important so massive swaths of the global population that people don't even try to enjoy what is around them, but rather need to get that selfie that is going to capture the moment perfectly.... a moment that they themselves are not actually living in because creating the perfect FB or IG post is more important than actually enjoying their own life is.

There are lots of reasons to loathe Zuckerberg but you can't deny that the man has done very well for himself and is a very intelligent person. However, everyone has an Achilles heel (except for maybe Elon Musk) and Zuck's just happens to be that he is, well, funny looking.

When this image ended up online of Mark surfing in Hawaii the internet was very quick to go on the offensive because well dude, I understand trying to not get skin cancer and all but seriously, for someone so clever you have really overdone it here. Nobody ever asked this question as far as I know but who the hell goes surfing in Hawaii with a hoodie on? Is this a new trend that I am not aware of?

The memes got creative really fast with people throwing in Spirted away, the Joker, and my personal favorite, Mrs Doubtfire into the mix.

Everyone can do something stupid every now and then, even if they are one of the richest people in the world. I am NOT rich and trip over my own feet on a semi-regular basis but nobody memes it because I am not important enough to record, i guess.

Mark's response to this "scrutiny that is not scrutiny" was a little dumb. Unwilling to admit that he just went bananas with some SPF 50 he tried to claim that he was trying to use the sunscreen as a disguise.

“I noticed there was this paparazzi guy following us, and, so I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t want him to recognize me, so you know what I’m gonna do? I’m just gonna put a ton of sunscreen on my face,’”

There's a couple of problems with this statement: One, if the paparazzi guy is following you guess what? He already knows that it is you. As big of a-holes as the Razis are, they don't just follow everyone in the hopes that it might turn out to be the billionaire owner of the world's most popular website. They already had you pegged. Secondly, too much sunscreen doesn't make you look like another person, it makes you look like you with a Noxzema mask on (do people still use that stuff?)

He could have just laughed it off and in my mind that was actually a great opportunity for the Zuck to appear a bit more human and less robot but nah, he didn't do that. Only a fool would believe his explanation and maybe that's the thing, maybe Mark really does believe we are all fools. Next time someone gets an embarrassing picture of you (and they will, because you are funny looking) just take it on the chin and don't try to explain it away.... then go buy yourself another yacht to make yourself feel better.

In the meantime I am going to continue to laugh at him and wonder how it is that he was able to see at all because I dunno if you have ever gotten sunscreen in your eyes, but it burns like hell.
