Dumb headlines from the past

Believe it or not, i couldn't find any dumb news in the current events of both Drudge report (usually right-wing) or Yahoo News (usually left-wing.) It must be a slow day and they couldn't come up with any "anonymous witnesses."

Anyhoo, here are some gems from the past that might get a chuckle out of you. When i was in college I worked as an editor for the university newspaper and none of these headlines would have made it past me. It is absolutely unforgivable that it made it past the editor of an actual newspaper who is presumably pulling a salary.

This was the front damn page of an entire section. I could understand (a bit more but not really) if it was hidden on page 4 midway down or something but the front page? I hope that guy got fired.

This was from a while ago but it is still absurdly dumb. While they were actually referring to a new bridge that had just been constructed to ease traffic congestion in a particular area, the choice of words is something you would see in a Kindergarten picture book designed to teach children what the word "bridge" means. Maybe they were talking about Jeff Bridges?

Certainly someone got at least reprimanded over this but again, it is a large section including color images and would be noticed by anyone even if they had no journalism background. The public certainly noticed and some laughed, some complained, and some don't know what "head" means in the alternate sense.

That's it for now. Personally i miss newspapers as i would collect this sort of stuff. As we see them disappearing and software becomes more advanced, the mistakes that likely would have been made have been replaced with dishonest reporting instead. I prefer the former.
