Dog eats passport of man about to leave for his wedding in Italy
I'm a big fan of dogs even though I do not have one. Like most things in life that require some level of responsibility, I would rather leave that to other people. This is why I don't have any kids despite having been with the dame GF for a very long time. I'm more than happy to dog-sit or house-sit but I just don't have the time or patience to deal with things that well, kind of need you in order to not be dead.
Dogs are great but in this particularly silly news flash, a couple was put into a tough position because of a cute dog that just couldn't help itself when it consumed the passport of one of the couple that was about to fly off on their dream wedding in Italy.

His name is Chuckie and he looks like a good boy. He probably is a good boy for the most part but well, this is just another reason why I don't have a dog. I live in a metro area and wouldn't be able to keep the dog outdoors to get the exercise it needs to not want to chew up everything and I guess the passport seemed like a fun thing to consume in the meantime.
Donato Frattaroli and his fiancé had spent what I consider to be an inordinate amount of time preparing for the wedding: Several years. They were out for their final dinner before shoving off to Italy to tie the knot when the worst case possible happened. Chuckie was munching away on something and while this is likely always a point of frustration, when it is your unique, really difficult to replace only method of being allowed to travel to Italy that is being chewed on, that is really bad news indeed.
At the time of me reading the article there still hadn't been a resolution to this but in my own experience it is very possible to get emergency passports not necessarily for situations exactly like this, but for ones like it. In my own life I was able to get a passport next day in New York City at the Passport Office, and this wasn't even a "rush order" and it was the day before Thanksgiving. So, perhaps the situation isn't as dire as it is made out to be. I'm sure there will be a lot of driving if this couple doesn't have access to a friendly Passport Office and since they live in Boston it wouldn't surprise me a great deal if the State Department is intentionally unhelpful there. No offense to any Bostonians that might be reading this but it has been my experience that this city is quite "rough" and not very friendly. But then again I feel the same way about NYC and it worked for me there.

Chuckie has become a bit of an internet sensation because of this and it will likely only be a matter of time before he becomes a meme template. The meme world needs a new dog hero since the untimely passing of "Cheems" the "bonk dog" has left an available slot for a new dog in the ranks.
I was looking on one website about this story and it stated that it can normally take "weeks or months" to obtain a passport and well, this is the only "dumb" part of this news story because no it does not. This might be true if you have never had a passport but if you bring in an existing passport, even a badly damaged one, it can be replaced very quickly. I would imagine this is doubly true if your story about your wedding has made international news. Regardless, I hope that the couple is able to salvage their wedding plans and that everything goes well. In the meantime I will continue to pet other people's dogs, and not have my own!
