Canada's embarassing "legalization" of cannabis
17 years ago, Portugal completely decriminalized (ended prohibition of) cannabis. Hard drugs like opiates are treated with therapy and community service rather than fines or jail time. It has been an incredible success. Addiction is down. Overdose is down. Crime is down.
In the Philippines, it is legal to abuse fellow citizens for simple cannabis possession. Thousands of cannabis users (medical and recreational alike) have been murdered in just the past few years. Police hack arms off drug users or just shoot them. The president boasts that he has killed 3 drug users himself.
Canada's legalization in 2018 is closer to that of the Philippines than that of Portugal.
