Things Aren't Going So Well For Zuckerberg In Hawaii

in #news8 years ago

Last year, Zuckerberg paid an estimated $100 million to acquire an estate in Kauai, Hawaii that's said to be about 700 acres of property. It wasn't a very clean real estate deal though, as it turns out Zuckerberg is suing hundreds of Hawaiians who allegedly have part legal-ownership claims to a portion of his new property space.

It's alleged that these hundreds of people have potential claims to the land, thanks to supposed inheritance rights under the Kuleana Act which was introduced back in 1850. A number of holding companies that are controlled by Zuckerberg, went ahead right after Christmas on December 30th and decided to file numerous lawsuits against those who claim to have some portion of ownership to the land.

The Guy Who Thinks It's Okay For The Rest Of Us To Be Spied On Sure Values His Privacy

It's alleged that Zuckerberg sure values his privacy and in order to protect it, he built a 6-foot-high wall around his property in Hawaii. Locals and neighbors also claim that his security team has tried to intimidate the community into staying off the beaches and trails that are near his home. It's alleged that even police reports have been filed by those neighbors, over controversial run-ins with Zuckerberg's team.

And hundreds of people in Hawaii are now planning to protest against Zuckerberg this upcoming weekend. It's alleged that Zuckerberg has said that he is now reconsidering the lawsuits. They want to try and move forward in a way that pleases the most people and helps to DE-escalate the situation. In a statement, Zuckerberg said that he wants to respect the traditions and the interest of the many potential property owners.

It looks like the plan is for the protesters to march along the controversial wall that Zuckerberg has built around his property. And some say that they will continue to demonstrate there until he makes the decision to drop the lawsuits.

It was a film with George Clooney! The Descendants, 2011
The Descendants
Interesting what happens in remote places with a history and then some money turns up!!
Great post.

haven't seen that one yet!

how come the liberals most against borders always seem to want the biggest borders and security for themselves...

While Clooney hasn't really commented on it so far (as far as I can tell), he certainly hasn't told his neighbors off either.

I think George is realising that we are in a muddle - he was going to do a White Helmets film ... then he found a few messages explaining the truth ... he pulled out. What surprises me is that Putin hasn't offered to build a tunnel - now that would make the world laugh. There are already hundreds!
What about a few pleasure boats - we could have MV Visa and SS GreenCard ... we could make a soap out of just that!

collective borders are quite different from private ones, but i get your drift lol

Poor Zuckie, maybe he should of bought a 200 ft yacht instead like all the other Billionaires.

As I see the very first comment, I can't help but say that this is exactly what rose up i my mind as soon as I started reading your post! I wonder what came first in that case! thanks for sharing this real piece of history with us and underlining a matter that is on the uprise all over the world, especially in relation to the unlawful tenancy of aboriginal lands all over the world.

All for one and one for all! Namaste :)

Was nice post.

I looked into this. My interpretation was that "suing" is just a way of formally settling and finding the true entitlement people. Mark wants to pay more people than he needed. Even if they didn't know about it, the process helps those to claim they have rights to the land from a old law. So people that never knew they were entitled to some of this land are going to be paid a lot more. The news just loves to say mark is suing poor people.
Not a big fan of Marks work but he could have done the minimum and let those that know about this old law sue him in court, settled for far less or tie it all up and keep all the money. He wants to pay so why not let him give away more money.
