"Neither left nor right": new British party wants to end Brexit

A new British political party, the "Renew", was launched today in the UK to reverse the "Brexit" and revitalize the political center.

"The appetite for a new party ... is colossal", said one of the three leaders of the new formation, James Clarke, who takes inspiration from the "Republic on the Move" ("En marche!") movement of French President Emmanuel Macron.

A year and a half after the referendum in which 52% of voters chose to leave the European Union (EU), "Brexit" continues to divide the electorate and even the Conservative Party, which is in power.

But both Conservatives and Labor opposition have vowed to respect the outcome of the referendum, and Britain's third party, the pro-European Liberal Democrat Party, failed to capitalize on the anti-"Brexit"

"The Renew wants to be a vehicle for people who do not feel politically represented, who feel ignored," Clarke said.

The leaders of the new party were inspired by the movement created by Emmanuel Macron who, a year after being formed, won the presidential and legislative elections in France.

"There is no formal link between 'Renew' and 'En Marche', but what we want is not too far from what Macron has achieved in France [...]. It has shown that it is possible to do something extraordinary in a short time", explained Clarke.

"We like to consider ourselves different from traditional political parties", he continued. Neither left nor right, the 'Renew' wants to assert itself "in the emptiness at the center of British politics".

The new party, headed by James Clarke, Sandra Khadhouri and James Torrance, is expected to present 650 seats in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for 2022.

Renew is one of several pro-EU and anti-"Brexit" initiatives that have emerged in recent months.

In early February, a set of moves against "Brexit" launched the Grassroots Coordinating Group (GCG) platform to coordinate efforts to influence negotiations with Brussels and try to call a new referendum.

Another organization, "Our Future, Our Choice", was launched by a group of young people who want to "democratically prevent" Brexit, joined by a Labor member of the House of Lords, Andrew Adonis.

There is also the "Best for Britain" organization, founded by Gina Miller, the businesswoman who took the British government to court to have Brexit put up for a vote in Parliament, which already had funding of £ 500,000 (564,000 euros) by American millionaire George Soros.

The estimated date of departure from the United Kingdom of the European Union is 29 March 2019.
