US scientists get the world's most powerful magnet record

An American magnetic laboratory has managed to create the most powerful magnet ever, thus achieving a world record. It is a resistive magnet of 41.14 teslas, which translates into up to 20 times the power of machines that are used to create medical images, such as magnetic resonances.

The magnet has been created by National MagLab Laboratory and is located at Florida State University. It took about two and a half years to manufacture it, and cost about 3.5 million dollars.

The National MagLab had the world's most powerful magnet record for 19 years, until they were outscored by a laboratory in China with its 38.5-tesla magnet recently. Fu then when Greg Boebinger, director of MagLab, asked his engineers:

"Go and make a bigger one, use more power and turn the volume up to 11 to see what happens."
