The Chinese artificial sun
While the temperature of the sun reaches about 15 million degrees centigrade in its nucleus, the Chinese artificial analogue "burns" to 100 million degrees.
Chinese research teams managed to create an artificial "sun", better known as Tokamak Superconductor Experimental Advanced (EAST), which is capable of exceeding temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius.
The Hefei Institutes of Physical Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced on Tuesday that the electrons of its "sun" reached that caloric magnitude this year, in the course of a four-month experiment.
EAST has reached more than 100 million degrees of temperature in its four-month experimental campaign this 2018. EAST is the first fully superconducting tokamak with a non-circular cross section in the world. It has been built by China with the aim of addressing key scientific issues for the application of fusion energy, "the statement said.
The objective of this device, which reaches a temperature even greater than that of the nucleus of the real Sun, is to study nuclear fusion in order to use it some day as an alternative energy source. The energy obtained from nuclear fusion could be clean, unlike fission nuclear energy, which leaves toxic waste.
That’s interesting...I’m an engineer working for a the biggest project on earth regarding Fusion technology, ITER
