WHY SO MUCH FOCUS ON THE MILITARY BY THE DONALD TRUMP?

The united states is already the highest ranking in military expenditure and with the gap wide enough between them and second placed China, you would expect the United states to be pretty chilled about that whole situation. This doesn't appear to be the case however, Donald Trump is clearly showing his intent of further strengthening the military through the budget and executive orders.His latest move being his announcement of a military fortified border with Mexico which he termed in the same category as the border between the Korean peninsulas.
