I think it's really interesting, but I'd be waiting for the next generation where-- as you suggested-- there are more features and they've worked most of the inevitable kinks out of the system. It also seems to me that if this is meant to be a "hands free" advancement, it should be voice activated and controlled... having to swipe something while you're riding sort of misses the point. At least for me.
