PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk provided an explanation regarding alleged leakage of its customer data.

A BRI client reminded other customers to be careful because his personal data had been known to be a fraudster.

The case of leaking personal data of BRI customers is somewhat unique because people know enough detail, such as name, account number, ATM card number, card expiration, and biological name.

Allegedly leaked this customer data is known after a BRI customer named Yuli Purwanto was called to the person on behalf of BRI. Initially Yuli believes that callers are BRI's customer service.

Until Yuli suspect that the caller asked the 3 digit number behind the ATM card. These three numbers are a special code for verification when confidential credit card transactions.

Related to this, the Head of Corporate Secretariat Division BRI Bambang Tribaroto said the bank never provided any customer data to anyone through any media.

"BRI Bank never requests confidential customer data such as 3 digit numbers behind a card or one time password via phone, SMS, or e-mail,"

Leaks of customer data may be influenced by several factors, including through online transactions, credit card usage during transactions on EDC machines and through social engineering.

According to Bambang, customers need to be more careful in registering accounts or when making transactions on e-commerce sites. "Moreover, the transaction should include personal data," said Bambang.

In addition, BRI hopes that customers do not use public WiFi for internet data connection. Customers are also asked to be careful when performing a second swipe on the computer keyboard or cash register cash register machine.

It is hoped that the client also performs computer viruses and does not inform the confidentiality of the data to others or on behalf of BRI.
