Scientists Baffled on Comets & Dark Matter

As the Sun rotates around, we have a sunspot group coming in with a coronal hole showing up to the south.
Solar wind has calmed down as the last remnants of the previous coronal hole stream have faded away. Check out the Space Weather charts below to see that everything is green and no worries. The next stream should hit us on about Halloween.

While I would find it hilarious if somehow the DoD shutdown power to blackout status while snowflakes do their best to act like roosters looking for a hen, I don't think everyone would find it funny. If The National Association for Amateur Radio is right on this, then people probably should have a heads up.

Elements of the US Department of Defense (DOD) will conduct a “communications interoperability” training exercise November 4-6, once again simulating a “very bad day” scenario. Amateur Radio and MARS organizations will take part.

“This exercise will begin with a national massive coronal mass ejection event which will impact the national power grid as well as all forms of traditional communication, including landline telephone, cellphone, satellite, and Internet connectivity,” Army MARS Program Manager Paul English, WD8DBY, explained in an announcement.

However, this is just a drill for the Amateur Radio people to do a roll call. It doesn't say that any blackout will happen. However, the groups holding the protest on Nov. 4th keep saying there won't be violence, either. I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

Coronal holes are regions where the sun's corona is dark. These features were discovered when X-ray telescopes were first flown above the Earth's atmosphere to reveal the structure of the corona across the solar disc. Coronal holes are associated with 'open' magnetic field lines and are often found at the sun's poles. ~ https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/imagegallery/image_feature_2268.html

Sunspots are temporary phenomena on the Sun's photosphere that appear as spots darker than the surrounding areas. They are regions of reduced surface temperature caused by concentrations of magnetic field flux that inhibit convection. Sunspots usually appear in pairs of opposite magnetic polarity. ~ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunspot

Solar wind is a stream of charged particles released from the upper atmosphere of the Sun, called the corona. This plasma consists of mostly electrons, protons and alpha particles with thermal energies between 1.5 and 10 keV. ~ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_wind

Asteroid Watch

Average distance between Earth and the moon is about 239,000 miles (385,000 kilometers).

Yesterday I posted that there weren't any Near Earth Objects until Halloween. Good thing you can check the widget each day, because apparently 5 new ones appeared on the list. The Oct. 29th one coming in extremely close in astronomical measurements. It is just 5 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon, so no real worries that the airline sized object will make an impact.

I think I upvoted this so if it didn't go through let me know and I'll come back and try again!

Love seeing the updates on asteroids coming to say hello as long as they're all staying far enough away.

Upvote worked.

I haven't been tracking them long and don't have time to figure out if we are seeing an increase or not. However, since the NASA NEO tracker tool hasn't been around long, there probably isn't enough data to determine anything.

I'm a retired Trucker and thus an authority on everything. I've never been comfortable with the idea of so called dark matter. It seems racist.
