It is The Law! 18 Year Old Males Must Register

in #news7 years ago

Are the "adults" on CNN's Townhall morons?

It is the Law

Virtually all male U.S. citizens, regardless of where they live, and male immigrants, whether documented or undocumented, residing in the United States, who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service.

The law says men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. That means men are required to register with Selective Service sometime during the 30 days before their 18th birthday, their 18th birthday, and the following 29 days after their 18th birthday – that is a 60-day registration period.

During CNN's scripted Town Hall meeting last night, the Broward County Sheriff, who was called to the shooter's house more than 2 dozen times says "18 year olds should never have a rifle."

This is a man who walks around every day with a firearm to supposedly protect the citizens he servers. For him to stay something so stupid is beyond belief. He's old enough to know that he had to register for selective services at 18 years old. He should know that 18 year old men are in the military and are using actual military rifles in order to be trained to kill people.

If he believes that 18 year old men and women are not adults, then when are they adults? And if they aren't adults at 18, then they shouldn't be allowed to vote either.

Also, the sheriff's comments in the video are a deflection from the fact that the Sheriff's Office visited the shooter's house multiple multiple times in the past year. And there were actions that the shooter did over the past few years that would have had him labeled as mentally incapable and put him on the gun registry list and prevented him from purchasing any guns.

The Baker Act - Florida Mental Health Act

The Baker Act allows for involuntary examination (what some call emergency or involuntary commitment). It can be initiated by judges, law enforcement officials, physicians, or mental health professionals. There must be evidence that the person:

  • possibly has a mental illness (as defined in the Baker Act).
  • is in danger of becoming a harm to self, harm to others, or is self neglectful (as defined in the Baker Act).

The shooting is the fault of the shooter, but there are many adults at the school and in that county that decided to let someone else handle the issues and some of these adults are now trying to lay the blame elsewhere.

I think its an interesting point honestly, and I want to take it one step further.

If we take the fact that male brains don't fully develop until age 25, and females at age 21, should there be limitations? The prefrontal cortex is used to make rational decisions, but until full development the emotional part of the brain is used.

  • Should they be allowed to join the military before they are fully developed?
  • Should they be in draft prior to 25?
  • Should they be able to enter legal contracts?

This question is much bigger than just a knee jerk reaction to a violent act. When should we consider someone an "adult"?

I have no answers, just questions. The more I learn and the older I get, the less I know.

The ACA law made children, children until they are 26. Might as well make that the age requirement.

Thats true, but I know how hard I would had rebelled if I was told at 18, nope, you have another 8 Years before you can own property, enter a contract, get a cell phone, rent a car / hotel room. I probably would have moved out of the country for a bit.

Yup. People don't understand the slippery slope they are treading on.
