I think there really are very powerful vested interests in the US military industrial complex. Incomprehensibly, the DoD audit mandated by law in 1990 was done for the first time for 28 years last year - and it ended in abject failure. Nobody knows how the Pentagon spends the money given to it and hasn't for a very long time. There most likely is corruption of epic scale within the Department of Defense. Given that its annual budget is $600 billion, I find it likely that trillions of dollars of taxpayer money have been wasted in the decades the expenditures of the DoD have been unaccounted for. If everything came to light, federal courts would be doling out tens of thousands of years of prison sentences and investigating and prosecuting the crimes would probably take thousands upon thousands of man hours. You'd think this sort of thing could only happen in utterly corrupt developing countries. I would certainly not put murdering high-ranking politicians who want to get to the bottom of what goes on past the largest criminals. After all, assassinations are the bread and butter of some of these organizations.
