Trump Says Gun Problem is Mental Illness, Revokes Mental Illness Gun Law

in #news7 years ago

Yeah, it makes no sense to me either

Donald Trump responded to Wednesday's mass shooting at a Florida high school by calling for mental health awareness, yet he repealed a law that expanded mental health considerations for gun background checks.

This is called hypocrisy. And idiocy.

Oh David, if only you could find the testicular fortitude to actually tell the WHOLE truth, you may one day grow up to be a fine journalist. On the other hand, the entire Main Stream Media is full of liars and sycophants, so perhaps you are fitting right in.

Allow me to tell the "Rest of the Story" that you so conveniently left out. (thank you, Paul Harvey...now he was a great American journalist)

First of all, the so-called law that "expanded mental health considerations for gun background checks" repealed by President Trump was passed by Obama in the very last days of his presidency as little more than a novel form of gun control and an unconstitutional infringement on the Second Amendment.

Under this law, the classifications for what constituted a "mental illness" were entirely arbitrary. For example, some afflictions on the SSA "disorder list" deal with anxiety disorders, fear of large crowds, or a lack of self-esteem.” These 'disorders' have nothing to do with a person being a danger to himself or someone else.

Even the ACLU came out against this law!! "The ‘personal opinion’ of a bureaucrat cannot be the basis for taking away a person’s Second Amendment rights." https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2017/02/20/gun-control-congress-aclu-editorials-debates/98147914/

I'll say it again....EVEN THE FRIGGIN' ACLU OPPOSED THIS LAW!!

The more you try to put down our great President Donald Trump, the more wrong you will find out you are.

#MAGA Baby!

All those disorders you listed can become dangerous in the right conditions, and I don't want guns in the hands of someone who feels so inferior that they want to kill their superior. Nor do I want guns in the hands of someone who hates crowds so much that they open fire. Nor do I want someone who becomes so anxious and paranoid that they start thinking everyone is the enemy.

Edit: Having said that, nice post. Always like a person who gives sources.

Hello. I am a government bureaucrat.
You just publicly disagreed with my post. I believe you are displaying an anti-social behavior.
I am adding your name to our "disorder list"

And just as simple as that, you have lost your Second Amendment right.

If you continue to disagree with me, I will see to it you lose more of your rights.

I feel safer now.

.

Now that's what I call a slippery slope. Unelected, deep-state bureaucrats deciding what rights I do and do not deserve.

I see what you mean... Maybe they could have added some redundancy.

I'm on the anti-social disorder list and I want to get a gun. Thus, I go to the psychologist in order to make sure that I truly am mentally stable, and after getting removed from the list, I now get my gun.

Adding in some checks and balances, after all, it would be a government institution in charge of the whole thing. That way everyone who is truly mentally sound can get their guns, and the populous can still have the added protection of the restriction.

it also only applies to people who were on social security disabilities for mental illness and had been adjudicated mentally defective by a court and incapable of managing their own finances. This law unfairly targeted the elderly and would not have stopped this issue.

sirstacksalot, can you say flip flopping? Because that is exactly what Davidpakman is pointing out in this story. At a minimum you must admit that Trump is switching his position to appease the will of the current mob mentality. If Trump was serious and wanted to make real change he would have done something after making the repeal instead of waiting for the opportune time to change his position. Honestly he is not better than Hillary. She would do the same thing and she would play to the crowd. Playing to the mob is not a solid political stance to lead a democratic country. Just look at South Africa, their Trump like president just stepped down because the people were tired of his attitude in running the country and the level of corruption he brought. Trump is very much in a similar boat if not the same sinking ship, regardless of what you think of his presidency.

@rsc227. David is certainly trying to play this as a flip-flop on President Trump's part, but what he is really doing is displaying his love for McCarthyism for the entire world to see.

First off, David (and you) complain that President DJT repealed the law without offering an alternative or offering up something in its place. I submit to you that repealing a bad law (which it was according to even the ACLU) and thus allowing us to return to the state prior to the passage of the bad law IS the alternative..for now. No law on a subject is infinitely better than a bad law. (I've already explained above how the law is bad, so I'll try not to repeat myself).

Secondly, David repeatedly uses the word "SUSPECTED" (0:31, 1:15) when referring to people on the SSA disorder list. So, unless you are are a closet admirer of Senator Joseph McCarthy and his tactics of blacklisting people because of their "SUSPECTED" ties to communism, you should be appalled (like the ACLU was) that a law could be passed (by Obama) that could obliterate a person's Constitutional Rights because of a "SUSPECTED" condition.

Finally, I am not very impressed in yours, or David's, complaint that our great President DJT is somehow playing to the crowd just to get their approval. This has been a hallmark of politics since Adam and Eve were shown the exit to the Garden of Eden and left to fend for themselves. I guess you didn't consider pandering and promise breaking an issue during the disastrous Obama regime.

And Republicans are already calling for the head of the FBI director over this shooting... wonder why?

why not, right?

Oh my goodness, is he for real?. He's the one that needs mental health check🤷. The worst President ever. Although I find him hilarious.

Nothing trump does makes sense lol..now he wants to hand out boxes of food to the poor in place of food stamps..because we trust donald trump of all people to feed the hungry.

Here i thought soylent green was just an out of left field science fiction flick..

His thoughts on gun control aren't even worth mention.

Donald Trump is mentally ill. Revoke Donald Trump.

A Democratic red herring.
The real problem is the lack of emotional intelligence taught in the school systems.

Uh-oh, you aren't one of those people for prayer in public schools, are you?

There is absolutely no logic in Trump. He says what he says at that minute. Don't try to make sense of it. It's pointless. All we can hope for is someone to keep him locked up at Maralago so he doesn't hurt anyone. No matter how bad it seems like he's done something, no one does anything. Stuff any other American politician on both sides wouldn't get away with, he does.

It's pretty incredible. I don't know how to believe an utter moron became president, it's not quite that easy. But he's a card-carrying narcissist.

I think he thinks having double standards of morality is better than having none at all.

You sure he knows what he's talking about because this sounds like bull shit.

The presidency problem is mental illness. We need to take a break from electing socio/psychopaths with delusions of grandeur for a couple decades.

how? the cream rises to the top

As long as we believe in power, this is who will get it. Sociopaths are more determined and probably just better than regular people at winning these positions.
