I struggled with this one...can Steemit help identify the caller's point?

in #news7 years ago

I made an effort here

I really wanted to understand what point this guy was making, I truly did, but I failed. I would be thrilled if someone out there in the Steem world can figure out what the guy was talking about.

He was saying the the Russia Red Scare of late isn't a gigantic deal in the grand scheme, singularly, because it's happening all around the world every single day. Even within our own country we find people meddling with other candidate's behind closed doors (cough cough democratic primary 2016) in illegal and immoral fashions.

The idea is to combat the happenings as a whole, and not blow one small example way out of proportion while ignoring everything else.

hmm alright, interesting interpretation

I think his point was that the Russia election meddling is irrelevant because most countries governments would like to influence other countries governments and do so often. One way of doing so is through democratic countries elections, whether it be with propaganda and/or more subversive methods.

The argument is purple aliens don't wear hats. And yes, that wasn't supposed to make sense.

The caller did a bad job of communicating, so I'm not sure his precise point. If I had to guess, I think it would go something like this:

  1. The U.S. regularly overthrows democratically elected governments all around the world and has been doing so for the better part of the last century.

  2. All that the Mueller indictment is alleging is that there was a Twitter troll farm in Russia which had no tie to the Russian government.

  3. This troll farm posted a grand total of two anti-Clinton memes which can be described as either amateurish or clownish depending on how long you look at them.

  4. This troll farm also promoted Anti-Trump memes and many memes unrelated to the election at all.

Conclusion: Why are we still talking about this non-story?

I'm pretty sure that's what he was getting at, though I agree with you that he was less than clear.

Jimmy Dore sums it up pretty well here:

Could only understand the first two sentences or so on Russian interference in the election. Beyond that, he was going back don forth, wasn't speaking loud or audibly enough.

One might need to listen to it again.

i don't think this guy was making any point . He is just talking about the news or he is just angry to hear about this news so many times , Russia succeed or not. Or he is angry because he can not believe Media talking about this, Russia did or didn't interfere .

Really tough to understand his view.I am sorry i can't help you.tenor.gif

Lolz...you are so wicked, making matters worst with this picture.

1:36: OMG. Dude. You're killing me.

Yes. That's the way the world works since 1500. Everyone spies on everyone. Including their allies. Especially their allies. Everyone undermines everyone, including their allies.

You need to remember one thing about the deepstate: it's a pack of paranoid backstabbing cowards that are in it for them.

Yes. Everyone's always trying to interfere in every other country's business. Everyone. Every business. Economy, information, technology, administration etc.

You're aware of the brute force that countries exert over others when they can, right? Why on Earth would you assume that they're above subtler manipulations?? This is precisely why the world's as fucked up as it is: we have insane sociopaths behind the scenes pulling at every loose thread to unravel each others plans.

Remember that exCIA head a couple of days ago talking about how they overthrow governments and by his own (lack of) admission: they UNDERMINE democracies? Do you think he's special, or that a system that let him get to the top without being corrupt to the core? No, every nation is like this, and every nation exerts as much force as they can; unfortunately we're governed by brutes...

I think I get this guys' point, and honestly I completely agree.

Everyone does this every time. Everyone's always trying to affect elections, including American elections. This isn't news; it's common knowledge. Russia was trying to affect American elections last year. And it was the year before that. So was Britain. So was France. So was Germany. Everyone has an interest in everyone else's affairs.

In other words: you know this isn't news, right? It's always been happening since the dawn of nationality, and it will keep happening. Focusing on this one time Russia did it is the height of folly. They did. They'll do it next time. You'll do it next time to them, don't worry. Canada will mess with Guatamala's elections too.

What's the solution, if I haven't lost you already? Ignore it. Tell them to stop, and go about your day. It doesn't even work most of the time.
