Brain to computer interface (BCI) breakthrough

in #news7 years ago

Brain-computer interfaces are revolutionary technology which depending on evolutionary trajectory could change what it means to be human. The first iteration of this technology will likely be for people who are trapped inside their body with no means of communicating (Miller, 2015). This technology will also have vast implications once it is perfected but one of the major issues which will in my opinion prevent mass adoption of the BCI is the fact that most BCI being discussed is invasive. Non-invasive BCI on the other hand such as some sort of helmet or similar could on the other hand become mass adopted in our lifetime.

DARPA's Neural Engineering System Design is a program working on enhancing the neural interface for the BCI.

Shepard believes that achieving the requisite scale for NESD is possible only if his team exploits the full capabilities of leading-edge CMOS technology, together with the industry's associated manufacturing capabilities, and uses monolithic integration of stimulation/recording electrodes with an underlying CMOS electronics platform.

The implanted chips are ultra-conformable to the brain surface, very light, and flexible enough to move with the tissue. The chip does not penetrate the brain tissue and uses wireless powering and data telemetry.

Suppose BCI and blockchains are both mainstream 10 years from now? How might they interact in beneficial (non-oppressive) ways?

people will lined up to hook themselves up regardless of the evidence that everything can be hacked at some point... so their brains can be hacked too at any given moment.

I am reading 52 votes for this OP as I type this... many will do anything to become immortals, even if they can be hijacked by malwares. They will live in fear 24/7

Yes but that hacking can eventually happen whether people hook up voluntarily or the hackers hook something up to them in sneak ways. It's only a matter of time before communication technology gets smaller, ubiquitous.

So the question is at what point do you connect yourself to the "hive" or do you wait for the hive to connect you to it via hacking? It very well could also be the case that the whole hive gets hacked by some entity.

It very well could also be the case that the whole hive gets hacked by some entity.... exactly, CERN has been working on digitalizing reality and some say that it has created portals that can be open to... (fill the blank)

My stance is currently against AI because the elites have bad track records. Instead of spending on wars, they could spend on education, but they do not... so, there is a malevolent intent.

We cannot have a peaceful AI working for the betterment of humanity as long as humans do not take full responsibility for their own lives and what is worldwide.

brains can be hacked too at any given moment.

Maybe, maybe not. Brainwaves & genetics operate on scientific/physical principles & laws (even if barely anyone if anyone knows the sets of laws at this point). T'is possible the bodies have their own inbuilt permissions systems, such that certain levels of access could only be granted in accordance to the sets of Laws whereby permission is either consciously granted or determined according to adherence of principles protecting against abuse/manipulation.

They will live in fear 24/7.

Anyone in the base Survival state of consciousness does live in fear 24/7. However, there are likely to be certain technologies available soon enough to facilitate in switching out of survival state...

today people are not free, this technology will be against them.

Technological Immortality, Think Again? What Musk And Kurzweil Don't Say And Why Does It Matter

Immortality is technologically impossible but extended longevity should be a goal for anyone who doesn't want to die. You have a point in saying people are not free today so why wouldn't this technology be abused just like how the Internet and every other technology is abused?

At the same time we cannot avoid the technology once it's invented so how can we get the maximum benefit to empower the individual? It's kind of like how mainframe computers existed in the 60s and 70s but the personal computer had to be invented to bring computation to the masses so everyone could benefit. The Internet existed for a long time but it wasn't until the 1990s that almost everyone could benefit.

How to limit the risks and increase the benefits?

Immortality is technologically impossible but extended longevity should be a goal for anyone who doesn't want to die...... that is what my Earth Custodians Movement is about, willing to live longer without claiming the right to immortality because immortality is impossible and a hoax therefore. But one can prolong life and still be looking very human, 3D printing already makes bone and muscular tissues.

Cyborgs are not for our 3D dimension, and humans will have to find a way to send them where they come from: outer space. Or they will destroy our planet. The 2 dimensions are incompatible

Hello friend! You blog is very interesting me !! Thanks 🙏 good luck. 👍

Crazy times. Singularity is near!

Technology is unavoidable , it's always around us and we can't seem to run away from it , it actually is ruining our life

WHAT ABOUT ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.. THANKS FOR SHARING..

Me and @litvintech have a dream to make a Golos transaction (like) using Open BCI ;-)
