Gulf Crisis Deepens, India To Airlift Its Citizens From Qatar, The Country Under Siege And Under Blockade

In an indication of the deterioration of the crisis facing the country of Qatar, the Indian Government announced that it shall be setting up special flights to bring home its citizens from there as the blockade enters its fourth week.

It is estimated that around 700 thousand Indians work in Qatar and the diplomatic blockade has created an environment where these people are ready to leave for home.

Qatar has been facing a crisis since three weeks now. Countries like Saudia Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and other countries in the vicinity had announced a blockade and closed down access to its land borders. This blockading states have accused Qatar of "supporting terrorists" and cosying up to Iran and have clamped down effectively cutting off all the land borders and also distanced themselves by cutting off all diplomatic ties.

The US, which has a military base in Qatar, have been sending confusing signal with president Trump seeming to support Saudi actions, while the Washington establishment seems incredulous and are asking for details of wrongdoing by Qatar.

But whatever the reasons may be, the situation seems far away from a solution at the moment and situation seems to be going from bad to worse. It has been reported that people are raiding supermarkets and supply of food is getting scares which has prompted countries like India to operate special flights to evacuate their citizens.
