¡Today, we are counting down which discoveries have been the most shocking in the last year! Are you ready?

Evidence of Earthlike planets and a new planet in our solar system, the 9th

Astronomers have found at least seven Earth-sized planets orbiting the same star 40 light-years away, according to a study published Wednesday in the Journal Nature. The findings were also announced at a news conference at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

This discovery outside of our solar system is rare because the planets have the winning combination of being similar in size to Earth and being all temperate, meaning they could have water on their surfaces and potentially support life.
"This is the first time that so many planets of this kind are found around the same star," said Michaël Gillon, lead study author and astronomer at the University of Liège in Belgium.

In adition to this, two groups of astronomers are presenting their ideas on the possibility of a 9th planet in our solar system. Caltech astronomers announced an undiscovered large planet on the fringes of our solar system. 9th Planet
Elizabeth Bailey, who is a graduate student at Caltech, led a study suggesting that a large and distant planet may be adding a wobble to the solar system, giving the appearance that the sun is tilted slightly. Bailey said:

"Because Planet 9 is so massive and has an orbit tilted compared to the other planets, the solar system has no choice but to slowly twist out of alignment."

SpaceX makes rocket trips cheaper

To make spaceflight routine you have to do it affordable. And they are doing it, SpaceX has finally landed its Falcon 9 rocket on a drone-ship at open sea. It's the first timethey have been able to land on ocean.

The discovery of gravitational waves

The gravitational waves were detected on the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) detectors, located in Livingston, Louisiana, and Hanford, Washington, U.S. The discovery, was made by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration using data from the two LIGO detectors. Physicists have concluded that the detected gravitational waves were produced during the final fraction of a second of the merger of two black holes to produce a single, more massive spinning black hole. This collision of two black holes had been predicted but never observed. link1 link2

Real size 3Dprinted organs

At this moment, scientist are printing real size printed organs with the ITOP system . This system can print 3D shape imitating target tissue or organ. A 3D CAD model developed from medical image data generates a visualized motion program, which includes instructions for XYZ stage movements and actuating pneumatic pressure to achieve 3D printing. Mechanical stability is achieved by printing cell-laden hydrogels together with biodegradable polymers in integrated patterns. The correct shape of the tissue construct is achieved by representing clinical imaging data as a computer model of the anatomical defect and translating the model into a program that controls the motions of the printer nozzles. The incorporation of microchannels into the tissue constructs facilitates diffusion of nutrients to printed cells

New tree of life

Recent thinking of the tree of life have focused on the nature of deep evolutionary relationships or on the known, well-classified diversity of life with an emphasis on eukaryotes. These approaches had a dramatic change in our understanding of life's diversity, new methods to generate genome sequences to understand the organisms and their metabolic capacities.
