“Black Monday” - Mass Protest Against Farm Murders in South Africa
The 27% rise of farm murders in South Africa called for thousands to come together in protest against violence. Early this morning, a convoy of vehicles head for our main roads all over the country.
People were asked to wear black today in memory of all those who have died specifically in farm attacks and also for those in violent crimes. Seventy people were killed since January 2017, in farm attacks. Every day 52 people are murdered in this country. It was stated in the Citizen (local newspaper) that “a farmer has 4.5 times more chance of being murdered than any other South African.”
Supporters gathered together in prayer at different places, pleading to God for this violence to stop.

Nearly half a million white South Africans have left this country in the past two decades due to the rise of crime (especially racial violence) and unemployment. People are tired of living in “Fort Knox”, not being able to go out at night or going for a jog in the day as a woman, and always having to check for suspicious cars and people before approaching your driveway. You just never feel safe.
According to the “Landbou Weekblad” (a South African Agricultural Magazine) there are about 20 000 farms for sale, the highest number in the last 20 years. Rising farm murders and land seizure are a huge threat to farmers these days.
If discrimination, crime and corruption in South Africa do not improve soon, we will end up like Zimbabwe.
This is so sad and dumb. If all the farmers leave, I wonder how the people will survive. No milk, no eggs, no fruits, no vegetables, no meat etc. They will have to bring these from somewhere else and it will be more expensive.
