France will pay tribute Thursday to former WWII resistance fighter Daniel Cordier, who died November 20 at the age of 100. The small military ceremony will be led by President Emmanuel Macron and attended by Hubert Germain, the last surviving "Companion of the Liberation", the Élysée Palace said.

Daniel Cordier, who as secretary to famed French resistance leader Jean Moulin helped orchestrate the country's fight against its German occupiers during World War II, died on Friday from Covid-19.

The military ceremony held in his honour will begin at 3:30pm in the courtyard of the Hôtel des Invalides in the centre of Paris. President Macron will deliver a speech hailing the memory of "a man of freedom" and one who was "emblematic of French destiny".

The French national anthem La Marseillaise and Le Chant des Partisans, the hymn of the Resistance, will be performed by the French Army Chorus.

Around 30 people are expected at the ceremony, among them Hubert Germain who, at the age of 100, is the last of the 1,038 Heroes of the Resistance who is still living. Around 10 members of Cordier's family and friends will also be present.

Among the dignitaries attending the ceremony will be former president François Hollande as well as president of the Senate Gérard Larcher and of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand. Prime Minister Jean Castex, Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly and Culture Minister Roselyne Bachelot will also be present.

Macron presented Cordier with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, France's highest decoration, in June 2018.

He will be buried on Friday at Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris.

Four teenage students have been charged in France over the killing of Samuel Paty, a judicial source said Thursday, including three for allegedly pointing out the teacher to his murderer.

Three other pupils were charged with complicity earlier this month over the beheading last month of Paty, who had shown his students cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed as part of a lesson on free speech.

Three of the four students charged Thursday were suspected of identifying Paty to his killer, 18-year-old Abdullakh Anzorov, who then tracked him down and beheaded him in a street near his school.

The three, who are between 13 and 14 years old, are being charged with "complicity in a terrorist murder," the source said.

The fourth is the daughter of the parent who launched a virulent online campaign against Paty denouncing the teacher's use of the cartoons published by satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo.

She has been charged with "slanderous denunciation" of Paty after relating her version of events in the classroom, though she did not actually attend his civics lesson.

Paty's murder sparked a torrent of outrage that prompted President Emmanuel Macron to crack down on Islamist extremism and violence in a country reeling from a wave of jihadist attacks since 2015 that have killed more than 250 people.

As the first stage of deconfinement in starts on November 28, people in France will be permitted more reasons to leave the house. But France’s travel exemption forms are not going anywhere.

As President Macron said in his speech on November 24: “The system of travel exemption forms will stay in place [for the first stage of deconfinement], as that is what has allowed us to get good results.”

This first stage of deconfinement will last until December 15, meaning travel exemption forms will be required for all journeys outside the home until this date at the earliest. In some circumstances, people will also need to carry supporting documents to justify journeys, such as cartes vitales, proof of address, or even tickets for events.

As non-essential shops reopen, and exercise is permitted within a 20km radius for up to three hours, we look at the extra documentation that will be required to leave the house.
What papers do I need to go to work?

As before, if you are leaving the house to go to work you will need a travel exemption form, a completed justification form from your employer, and some form of identification, such as a passport, ID card or carte vitale.
