RE: Trump Deficit EXPLODES to $1 TRILLION

in #news5 years ago

When Republican politicians speak of debt, deficit and working class tax cuts, it's a bit like Democratic politicians speaking of peace, immigration and working class welfare.

And, yes, of course those politicians know exactly that they're bullshitting people, that goes for right wingers promising to "balance the budget" or stating that tax cuts supposedly pay for themselves, but it also goes for neoliberals giving the big talk about helping the poor, the huddled masses at the border, that war is bad and that they'd close existing torture prisons.

They never balance the budget, the poor keep getting shafted, deportations increase and conditions in camps get worse, the US keeps playing a key role in destroying poor countries and Gitmo is still running.

nah i don't think the two are equivalent

There's a lot of nuance in there, of course. In the Republican party even the less corrupted elements drive a plutocratic bargain. The Democratic party has had room for Bernie, and more room has been painstakingly carved out for left wing representatives, such as AOC.

Also, neoliberal Democrats have to drive the slow lane towards Hell in order to keep up their theater of deception, and even they are obviously not too bad on social issues, whereas the GOP is an atrocity on all fronts.

However, I do maintain that there are, kindly put, a lot of politicians in both parties that shape their careers out of deception, just that they do it with different themes tailored to the voter bases they're grooming.
