These revelations come from the Twitter files which exposed coordinated censorship and Psyops between Twitter, DHS, FBI and the DOD Central Command. Twitter support for Pentagon Psyops, by whitelisting fake accounts created by CENTCOM officials, go back to at least 2017. Most of the fake accounts were Arab language accounts that pretended to be native to the region while providing favorable coverage to US special operations in the region by, for instance, claiming US drone strikes never kill civilians and promoting the Saudi bombing of Yemen and anti-Iranian conspiracy theories. Some of these fake accounts used AI generated faces in their pfp and were linked to fake news sites. This happened years after Twitter pledged to shutdown government backed propaganda campaigns on their network even while corroborating with the Pentagon in closed door meetings and hiring former DOD intel analysts as designated “global threat intel leads” whose job is to expose foreign influence campaigns and psyops.
