Why did McDonald’s fail in South Asia?
There’s an interesting story behind it that one of our “Management” teachers told us.
McDonald’s came to India initially and failed because no one was interested in their products (Burgers + Non-Veg) as the product did not exist in India at that time and few people who were trying it were the ones exposed to American culture.
The McDonald’s management went back to the drawing board and extensive surveys all around India were conducted. They found that majority of people were vegetarians and Burger as a food item was not common.
