The GameShark is arguably the most popular video game cheat device of all time in North America, but getting to the top of the mountain wasn't easy. From Gameshark's U.K. origins dating back to the Action Replay & Commodore 64, its numerous failures against the Game Genie, knock offs, and innovative products like the Sharkwire, whihc could take your Nintendo 64 online. This is the story of the GameShark.
When it comes to "game enhancing" peripherals, the Game Genie is always the first device I think of. I remember the first time I saw one used. I was amazed by the magic. Which is one of the things that made such devices interesting... they mostly didn't tell you how they worked or what they did, that they were working with the system's memory, you just put in the code and magic appeared.
