Trump is compassionate to Duterte's fight against drug cartels !
US President Trump met with controversial Philippine President Duterte. While former US President Obama condemned the actions and murders of the Philippine president, Trump's relationship with Duterte is considered excellent.
While the White House spokeswoman said that the leaders briefly talked about human rights, the spokesman for the Philippine president denied it.
"The talks focused on the Islamic State, illegal drugs and trade. Human rights have come to the fore in the context of the Philippine fight against illegal drugs," said spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
The spokesman for Philippine President Harry Roque, on the other hand, said that Trump did not have this issue at a 40-minute meeting. "The issue of human rights was not resolved".
"The American president looked compassionate and did not have a formal position on this matter, and he only nodded, indicating that he understood the internal problem we are facing with drugs," Roque added.
US congressmen and human rights organizations have called on Trump to express his concern at the meeting with Duterte about his drug campaign, which killed thousands of people.
Since Duterte took office in June last year, 3967 people were killed in police operations against alleged drug traffickers. 2290 were killed in drug-related offenses, and a few thousand deaths remain unresolved.
Trump and Duterte had plenty of opportunities to meet on Sunday night and today, but they all seemed to enjoy when they were together. "We have a great relationship. This was very successful," Trump said at the start of a meeting with Philippine president . He praised him for the "wonderful" organization of the Manila Summit. "I really enjoyed it here," he said.
Today in Manila gathered about a thousand protesters who protested against Trump and Duterte. 16 people were wounded in clashes with the police that broke out at the protest.
