Coalition of Israel and Saudi Arabia against Iran?
Gadi Eizenkot, Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces stated for the Arab online newspaper Elaph, that Israel is ready to share intelligence with Saudi Arabia, as both countries have the same goal - to stop or limit the influence and actions of Iran.
Both, the Jewish state of Israel, as the Sunni Saudi Arabia, sees Iran (along with its allies) as the main threat in the Middle East.
"There must be a plan to stop Iran, so we are ready to share knowledge and intelligence with Saudi Arabia and moderate Arab countries," Eizenkot said in an interview.
The official policy of Saudi Arabia is to reject any relationship with Israel until it withdraws from the territories that they occupied in the six-day war of 1967. It is the West Bank, or Judea and Samaria, the ancient cradle of Judaism.
Iran is expanding its influence in the region
An increasingly powerful Iran, and consequently a rise in tension between Riyadh and Tehran, could unite Israel and Saudi Arabia against Iran, which is expanding its influence in the region, also through the Shiite movements, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, where, allegedly due to Iran's pressure and threats of death, the Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri resign.
Harri has accused Iran of spreading "destruction" in the region. In addition to Lebanon, the Saudi-Iranian or Sunni-Shia battle for domination in the region also takes place (in some places in battlefields) in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Qatar and Bahrain.
Israel against the Iranian "concentration" in Syria
Eisenkot said that Israel does not intend to attack Hezbollah in which it fought a bloody war in the south of Lebanon in 2006, but will not allow a "strategic threat" against Israel, which is primarily aimed at the potential establishment of a military base for the Iranian army in Syria.
Iran also supported the "victorious" Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian civil war, which is why Israel points out that any accumulation of Iranian units will be eroded.
