The millionaires in San Francisco market after a young couple managed to buy their street

in #news7 years ago

Thanks to a little-noticed auction, a young couple found themselves the happy owners of one of San Francisco's most exclusive streets - and now they are looking for a way to make it worthwhile, financially.
Tina Lam and Michael Chang have managed to buy Presidio Terrace, a long street lined with huge estates worth tens of millions of dollars for only $ 90,000. The acquisition was made possible thanks to a public auction that began following the non-payment of tax by the Association of Street Owners. In fact, the couple managed to beat a number of other offerers.

Since buying the space in April 2015, the couple is considering a variety of options to profit, including the rental of 120 parking spaces on the street. "We can charge a very reasonable amount for them," Chang said.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, if the millionaires are not willing to pay for parking, the couple will be willing to bring other residents willing to park there.

The residents are crying out for help and want the supervisory council to cancel the deal. According to the residents, the acquisition of the couple is the result of a series of errors that led to the Association of homeowners who are on the street failed to pay a tax account of $ 14 per month for three decades. In a letter sent to the mayor's office last month, a resident attorney explained that the mistake was due to the fact that the monthly bill was sent to an accountant who stopped working for the union in the 1980s.
At present, the municipality has set up a hearing on the future of the street for October, when the residents of the street even personally sued the couple to prevent them from selling the street until the hearing takes place, which they claim may make it difficult for them to buy back their street.

This is not an act without a drop of irony: this acquisition could not have been implemented before 1948, when the Supreme Court overturned a law that prohibited non-white citizens from buying homes on the exclusive stree920x1240.jpg

What a very interesting article. I want the couple to just get the house. Unfortunately the lawyers will probably slow it down and kill the deal.
