Yemen warring parties reach Hodeidah cease-fire agreement
The negotiating delegations of Yemen's warring parties managed to reach an agreement on Hodeidah port and city, said UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Rimbo on Thursday, on the last day of the peace talks.
Guterres said the agreement would see "a mutual redeployment of forces from the port and the city, and the establishment of a governorate-wide ceasefire.
The UN will play a leading role in the port, and this will facilitate humanitarian access and the flow of goods to the civilian population."
"You have already agreed on a prisoners exchange. Now you have agreed on a timeline and details for implementing the exchange, allowing thousands — I repeat, thousands — of Yemenis to be reunited with their families," he added.
Guterres also revealed that both parties agreed to engage in discussions on a negotiating framework in the next meeting, which is due to take place at the end of January.
The Head of the Houthi delegation, Mohammad Abdul Salam and Yemen Foreign Minister Khaled al-Yamani stood and shook hands after Guterres’s statements.
