Syrian expatriates head to UN to show support for nation (photos)
On Monday, November 5th, 2018, a delegation of concerned Syrian Americans and Syrian Canadians converged on New York City for a volunteer project by visiting the Syrian Arab Republic's Permanent Mission at the United Nations (U.N.), and also visiting the Permanent U.N. Missions of select nations to promote the interests of Syria and improve ties between the respective countries.
The delegation comprised of Syrian expatriates from California, cities in the Midwest region of the United States (U.S.), cities on the U.S.’s Eastern seaboard, and also the province of Quebec, Canada.
The project was initiated by key leaders of the delegation and coordinated with the assistance of Syria's Permanent Mission at the U.N.
The focus of the initiative was to promote increased cooperation on a range of issues relating to Syria's current conflict, such as discussing peace initiatives, the return of refugees and reconstruction of the beleaguered Arab Republic, and also expanded into discussions about bilateral trade to bolster the economy, along with holding each country accountable for their votes at the U.N. regarding issues concerning Syria and other regional matters, specifically the status of Jerusalem.
The nations whose missions were visited are China, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Russia and Sweden, respectively.
This was the 3rd consecutive year that such a delegation was formed for such activities, with the hopes of making this an annual event in the future.
