Several Islamist rebels killed during disastrous operation in northern Hama
BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:20 A.M.) - Several Islamist rebels were killed by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) on Sunday after they attempted to carry out an ambush against the latter in the northern countryside of the Hama province.
Led by Jaysh Al-'Izza, the Islamist rebels attempted to sneak towards the Syrian Arab Army's lines at the large hilltop of Tal Bizam, but were spotted prior to reaching their intended destination.
According to a military communique from the Hama province, the Syrian Arab Army was able to gun down most of the Islamist rebels; this resulted in the death of several militants, including the leader of the operation.
The remaining militants escaped north towards to their lines in order to evade capture by the Syrian Arab Army troops nearby.
In response to this infiltration attempt, the Syrian Arab Army unleashed a flurry of surface-to-surface missiles towards the Jaysh Al-Izza stronghold of Al-Latamnah.
The Syrian Army would pound Jaysh Al-Izza's positions for a short period of time on Sunday before halting all hostilities in the afternoon.
