Russian MoD says Turkey has not fulfilled all responsibilities of Idlib agreement
BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:30 A.M.) - The Spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Defense , General Igor Konashinkov, stated on Wednesday that Turkey had not fulfilled all of their responsibilities in regards to Idlib agreement that was established on September 17th in Sochi.
"Ankara has failed in implementing all the responsibilities and commitments which the Idlib Agreement stipulates for with regard to establishing a demilitarized zone the province, but they have exerted tangible efforts in this regard," Konashinkov said.
Konashinkov indicated that implementing the Russian-Turkish agreement regarding Idlib is an important issue for calming the situations in Syria.
“We have noticed the efforts exerted by Turkey for implementing Idlib Agreement,” he highlighted.
He reiterated his country’s adherence to implementing the provisions of the agreement, indicating that many of the militant groups still reject the agreement.
Konashinkov warned against the continued attempts by militants to undermine the agreement through fabricating chemical attacks in order accuse the Syrian Army of carrying out such crimes.
Earlier this week, the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Russia commended Ankara on implementing the Idlib agreement, adding that everything is going according to plan.
However, the Syrian Foreign Ministry disagreed with Cavusoglu's claims, stating that Turkey was allowing the militants to remain inside the demilitarized zone.
