in #news7 years ago

A new version of the malicious program CoinThief "learned" to infect devices on the macOS, stealing from users the means in the crypto-currencies bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin.

According to the source, the malware spreads using the zero-day vulnerability in browsers [0day is a term denoting unresolved vulnerabilities, as well as malicious programs against which protection mechanisms have not yet been developed].

Also on the site it is reported that a malicious program uses a sophisticated technique called dylib hijacking, introducing malicious code into pre-installed applications, such as iTunes. In other words, after removing malware from the above mentioned paths, CoinThief can be reinstalled by simply launching iTunes.

Be careful! Do not install unfamiliar applications.
