Alonso will compete in the 24 Hours Race of Le Mans for Toyota
Fernando Alonso will compete this year for Toyota in the Grand Prix of Endurance and Efficiency, including the 24 Hour Le Mans Race, next to the Formula One season with McLaren.
Fernando Alonso announced on Tuesday that he will compete with Toyota in the Grand Prix of Endurance and Efficiency this season as well. The opportunity to compete in this competition was one of the requirements imposed by Alonso when signing the extension of the contract with McLaren for 2018.
The Spanish will have a highly loaded 2018 season: 21 races in Formula 1 and 4 other stages in the Endurance Championship. The pilot will participate in the Spa-Francorchamps (5 May), Silverstone (19 August) and Shanghai (November 18th) endurance races and will only miss the Fuji race, which will take place on the same day as the Grand Prix United States.
"I have never been shy about my goal of winning the Triple Crown: the Monaco Grand Prix, the 500-mile Indianapolis race and the 24-hour Le Mans race. Last year I tried Indy, I was close but I missed for a while, this year I have the chance to compete and win at Le Mans. "It is a great challenge, because many things can go wrong, but I am ready and I look forward to the fight," he said.
The announcement comes just days after Alonso competed in Daytona's 24-hour Race, where he held the 6th place before a flat tire on the shift of a team-mate and a brake problem occurred.
