Philippines: On What Ground The Martial Law Was Declared?
There is a huge outrage has occurred in Marawi City. There are several reasons behind this which have accelerated the intensity of this fight. The firefight between Maute fighters and the ISIS military forces has turned this situation into a severe one. If one considers any civil war, he or she can notice several intriguing factors behind this.
The Govt of Russia has encroached upon this issue and the President has declared Martial law for over 60 days on this issue. As the Martial Law has been enforced, the privilege of the citizen for habeas corpus was also got suspended.
If we analyze the core crisis of the situation, we will see that in the very beginning of the crisis, several gunmen occupied the city hall of Marawi which had resulted in severe casualties. However, the whole situation countered by the mayor of Marawi City.
Apart from this, few incidents have left the people speechless. The police chief of the city was claimed beheaded by the military but he has declared himself in a safe condition. Though this particular declaration will further help different Government forces to get out for further searches, detain as well as arrest the rebellions faster.
The fundamental reasons for declaration
Several controversies have raised among the Government personnel. Few of them say that the enforcement of this Martial Law was justified whereas some of the personnel say that even though the situation has become life threatening for the people of Marawi city, this could have been dealt in other ways. Different opinions from different personnel are coming up and these opinions are bypassing the core issue. It is important to reach to the root of this issue.
The role of the opposition toward root of the declaration
The role of the opposition in this situation has its opened up many several areas. Also, it has knocked the memory of suffering of the city men which has its history of three decades ago. Three decades ago Marcos had enforced the Martial law which resulted in peace and order in the city. From this situation, this is evident that history repeats itself.
What has triggered the clash?
The core reason of this situation laid hideout of Isnilon Hapilon in Marawi City, who is considered as the leader of Abu Sayyaf. An uncontrollable gun battle began after the Government troop raided in the city. The leader, Hapilon is still fighting with the wounds which he got from the military airstrike in the month of January. The blame of Maute was the sudden bomb attack in the hometown of Duterte. This attack results in the casualty of 15 people though the actual figure is still unknown.
The whereabouts of Isnilon Hapilon and his present condition
Government Agents and the military have revealed that Hapilon, the leader, is still inside the city of Marawi. The state military is still trying to find out the leader and trying to extricate him.
Fact of ISIS presence in the Philippines
Hapilon is an expert in commando assaults and he is considered as a well-known Arabic-speaking preacher. A report of his presence in ISIS branch has come out in the Southeast Asia. The US and the Philipines security officials have ignored the issue and they have asserted that there is no presence of ISIS in the city.
What is the actual situation on this ground?
The casualty of this fighting is massive and the death toll of six days in the city of Marawi has touched 100 people. Apart from the civilians of Marawi, almost 61 militants, 4 policemen, and 11 soldiers were killed in this outrage.
The civilians of Marwi were being tortured in the streets on Sunday and almost more than 2000 people were allegedly trapped deep inside the city.
People from other provinces in the country are leaving text messages to the Government and opting for help. Their homes have been destroyed by the severe terror attack. The nature of attack by the terror had affected the civilians immensely. Continuous looting and the burning of the civilian’s home were the regular phenomena and the civilians were allegedly evacuated from their own homes.
Not only was the torture limited on the civilian’s homes rather the militants had burned out the city jail, schools, and colleges. Gradually the level of torture started increasing in this situation.
This is the whole situation altogether and the civilians are severely suffering from this critical situation.
The enforcement of Martial Law has changed the situation and little bit but the condition is still in a vulnerable position. Though people are suffering in this situation, they are hoping for the better condition of the city. Also, the Government is expecting something better from this situation and hoping to hold the critical situation strictly by enforcing rules and taking the situation under control.
