I'm new to Steem and have looked in to the platform prior to signing up, but I'm interested to know what's the gig guys? What's your interpretation of what this is and what it could be.

Well the gig here is going to be different for each person. To me its an opportunity to share my photos and make friends as an alternative to Facebook that actually rewards the people that make the content.
For others, this is a gateway to get people interested in crypto. As such the sky is the limit! Followed.
It's whatever you want it to be. It seems that there is just about every community you could think of here. Check out the #photography groups. They seem to be biggest.
