The Media's Coverage of Two Dead White Women

Imagine if you will...

Two white women. Each killed in the prime of their lives by a mentally deranged bigot.

One receives weeks of attention, outrage, riots, and social media buzz. Everyone knows her name. A National Dialog is sparked.

The other is barely noticed. Barely mentioned in the news. No riots are expected in her name. No lingering social media buzz is building. Her name will be forgotten within the week. Mentions of her story around the water cooler next month will be met with vague confusion regarding the details.

But why the difference? Was one of them a well-known entertainer or sports figure? Or maybe was one evil? Was one a Kardashian?

Nope. They are both, by all accounts, "likable, kind nobodies".

The difference is that one was a left-wing activist murdered by a pale-skinned neo-Nazi (Heather Heyer in Charlottesville), and the other was a Christian woman murdered by a dark-skinned Sudanese immigrant who hated Trump, white Americans, and the police (Burnette Chapel Church, Christ in Antioch TN).

Why aren't we equally appalled by both of these hateful people -- not just the criminals, but also the people who cheer them on? Why does the media lick their chops at the ratings that one story will surely provide, but not the other? Why are they so willing to allow one to dominate the 24-hour news cycle, but not the other?

Most of Washington DC doesn't appear to want to help in this matter. The Media doesn't appear to want to help in this matter. And the far left in cities across America don't appear to want to help in this matter.

Question: When are two equally valid tragedies deserving of different levels of outrage?

Answer: When the narrative behind one tragedy is more appealing to those that choose what we are exposed to.

Stand up and point out that both are appalling. Shut off any news that hides one while extorting the other for high ratings.
