Meet the People Building Their Own Internet in Detroit but also How Networking our Communities together allows us to create distributed projects.steemCreated with Sketch.

This is one of the more exciting applications for me for decentralised internet and networking in the very near future, at least if we have the financial side locked down in our ability to side step in some degree the middlemen of banking centres using blockchain technology in the short term until they get their ethics sorted (if ever?) I believe that the next chapter is the mobilisation of internet connectivity to be able to access the worlds blockchains.

We have already seen progress with satellite sharing of the blockchain for people in remote locations or with the equipment to pick up the validation of their transactions and accounts on the bitcoin blockchain, I expect to see a lot more mesh based networking projects around blockchain for local areas in all areas of the world — I feel that this project in Detroit could easily for instance develop an SMT here on steemit and then tie that in to actually paying for more people to come onboard to help connect different areas, increase the pipe on the gigabit side (run redundancy or add more speed) and feed into community based projects where talking to each other actually allows people on low income to eat today.

I can certainly see where my direction will be in the coming years to be a connector in connecting the dots between crypto income, distributed networking and community projects based on blockchain funding.

interesting fact, i used to own a similar mutherbored.com back in the day, it was one of my first website names i had in 1998 -- https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://mutherbored.com -- yes, that makes me feel really old -- kinda wish i had kept it.

Most interesting project. At another end of the scale I live in rural west Wales where internet speeds are very very low. The national broadband infrastructure provider have been promising superfast connectivity for 3 years now, and nothing has happened.

Our community has now got together and is setting up a Community Wireless Network. However it still needs a superfast fibre connection in to feed the wireless network.

But we are meeting resistance from the fibre provider, who keep delaying and delaying with no good explanation. I believe they see us as competition for when and if they ever finally get round to bringing the superfast into our valley themselves.

We still have not found a way to get round that bottleneck. In rural Wales there is only one supplier of the fast fibre.

you ever checked out B4RN project? you should be certainly talking to them - https://b4rn.org.uk - i'm on the clock so can't reply for long, yeah i hear you it's always gonna be down to the back haul and the politics of that, mostly because BT had this clause where they had to have (x) amount of the customers in an area, it's all behind the scenes stuff while we suffer with slow connections -- in the end people will move to where the connection speeds are, i certainly have on many occasions, i'm liking what a company called hyperoptic is doing, you should check them out too.

They should add a 4th requirement for providing free Internet to Detroiters ...

4. Join Steemit and blog about how awesome their experience was.

boom, now you see where i am coming from ;)

We need to get in touch with them. Those are the type of people we need on steemit.

for sure, maybe i'll make another little outreach course, and maybe get 5/10 steemians together on a video chat together and we can record it and send it to them --- have some discussion topics and then connect with them after they have watched it if they are interested. i'm a bit busy right now with trying to keep my head above water money wise but once i'm sorted then i don't mind doing audience development and outreach to these people.

Love these guys and GALS! Awesome that women are at the forefront of this project mixing their passion for tech and humanitarian issues. Love love love it. Resteemingzzz!

That's a very great idea ..................

All of you said....
I'm so interested..
Thank you

awesome. get out there, learn new stuff, try for a new bit of information everyday and share that with others! :)

Yes, @arjunanku, please elaborate.

Great and interesting project, I could actually partner with these guys to work on my decentralized smart city project

i'm sure you would learn a lot if you just went for a few weeks to learn and be trained. it's pretty straight forward setting up the AP points and you could really really upgrade the connectivity in your local community as long as you can get the backhaul (fibre connectivity at the source) to feed out.

Yeah, I'm going to try and reach out to them. Thanks for bringing this my way

Hi @teamhumble.
