Greatest Events of WW2 in Color on Netflix
This is a fantastic documentary series for people who are already familiar with the events of World War 2 and it can be a double treat for those who aren't so familiar with it. I already knew quite a great deal but I learned a lot as well, particularly about the Battle of Midway and the events of Stalingrad.

This series is a follow-up to “World War Two in HD Colour,” and it is narrated by Robert Powell, who sounds almost exactly like David Attenborough, which at times is a bit unsettling but humorous when you consider the very different subject-matter the two refer to.

Each of the episodes are roughly 50 minutes long and cover events that I would suppose most people are already pretty familiar with such as D-Day, Pearl Harbor, and the bombing of Japan. The reason why this series is special is because they are meant to be using "rare" footage, much of which has never been broadcast before. I don't know if I believe that but it is a really entertaining series even if that statement turns out to not be true.
It isn't a "hooray for our side!" documentary the way that most people would suspect as it shows the suffering that occurred on the sides of the Axis, and most notably the civilian populations of all countries, rather than simply focusing on the hard times of the Allies. A few of the episodes actually focus entirely on German or Japanese victories, which is something you don't normally expect to see.

You'll end up finding out some things you may have not yet known such as the fact that the Nazi's utilized a lot of inventive strategies during the initial stages including having their soldiers take tablets that today was know as crystal meth. This gave them that extra "pep" they needed for prolonged military campaigns against France in the early stages.

There is a certain element of tension that they introduce that I enjoyed immensely, which couldn't have been easy for them to pull off since most viewers are already familiar with the eventual outcome. This was particularly evident in the "Battle of Midway" episode that I was unaware was actually a turning point of the war in the Pacific that dramatically changed the outcome of events that occurred afterwards.

If I were to say anything negative about this series it is the talking head experts that offer their analysis of what went on during the war as is described well-enough already by the commentator. Basically I found them unnecessary and would have preferred if the episodes didn't have them in there at all and the shows could just be 10 minutes shorter - particularly one person who keeps trying to interject feminism into every little thing.
I'm certain these people are very well-versed in what happened in the war as they tend to be historians or university professors, but the reality is that they are a quite boring aspect of an otherwise exciting series.
