I have purchased both lately just because of the price and to get ready for upcoming NEP-5 tokens. I can later convert my gas to Neo in order to earn gas. I was lucky enough with my Neo to have gotten in early enough to be ok, but other coins, not so lucky. I am very confident Neo will continue to grow, especially with the great projects coming out of it.
