Needleworkmonday- trying out patterns

Hey you guys! I hope we all had a good weekend, hopefully this week is gonna be even better.
For #needleworkmonday I am eager to talk a little about something I read on- Patterns. I am not really used to patterns and I really marvel at people I see who use it to make clothes, so I decided to learn more on it. This is sort of like a layman's thought on patterns but I hope its turns out to be helpful. I used old calendars to try out the patterns.

Some useful tips when marking patterns on to the fabric

Be sure to mark it as precise as possible
It is not necessary to mark on the 2 fabric layers but while cutting this has to be taken into account
Always test your marking tool (chalk or pencil or marker) to see the effect on your chosen fabric and whether the mark will remain, or will it stain the fabric etc
Please and please get a sharp pair of sewing scissors. If your scissors are blunt the edges will not turn out nice.
Take long cuts rather than many small cuts on straight edges and short cuts on curves.

There's a lot of usefulness of making patterns.

  1. It saves times. if making the garment / or a single piece of garment like a sleeve, again; as, once you make a pattern you don’t have to waste time the next time you are making a similar dress, in taking measurement and marking on paper etc ; you can just go about choosing your fabric and start sewing.
  2. Ease of use is an obvious advantage as, if we mark directly on to the fabric and if there is some changes in the measurement, the markings you have made may mess up your cloth.
  3. You're are able to deduce how your style is going to look like before you cut it on your material or fabric. So if you think a design or style needs to be added it can also be patterned out first.
4 .some one else can cut the material or fabric based on the pattern you have and want to cut out (although this is not a favourite of mine because I like to sew my clothes myself but you never know what might happen). For times when we could be indisposed or unavailable this really come in handy as the materials are cut and sewn based on the patterns already cut out.
I decided to write this little think piece based on patterns since I have read and seen and heard stuff about it. Also since I'm trying to focus on the good, that's why I wrote only the advantageous side of it. But what are your thoughts on patterns tho? Let us know☺

Nice design.. Steemed

Thanks Ubong👍

Very nice piece on patterns @wondermaey! I love that you shared your thoughts on the advantages with us. I haven’t experienced working with sewing patterns as I have only watched my mom work with them. I have yet to learn this skill :)

Thanks for sharing this week~

Thanks for taking the time despite everything to comment on my post @crosheille😍

Absolutely!!! I love visiting your blog and seeing what you’re up to! 😉

Using a pattern is the only way I would attempt to make clothing! I think you are quite talented to make your own designs.

Thanks @anise, that's so nice of you to say🙂

I've made a few dresses, but never managed to make a proper pattern :D. It's nice to read about your thoughts on patterns. I hope I can learn to make proper ones in the near future :)

I really admire the effort that goes into making a piece of clothing for yourself it’s all beyond me. I don’t believe I’m talented like you to be able to sew my own clothes. I only crocheted my first jumper this year and that was more necessity than want. I’m looking forward to more of your posts x

Thanks @daniellas you're too kind although I think you would be a able to make your own clothes if you really want to.. Do Think about it ☺

I might get there one day 😊

Good post, I find that using patterns allows for consistency in creating as they give me a place to start from.

Thanks @jamethiel I decided to give it a try

Good, informative post with helpful photos. Thanks for sharing. I found you through the #payitforward contest. You were featured by @mtnmeadowmomma. Congratulation and wish you all the best.

Thanks @energyaddict22 , I do appreciate your comment , thanks for the contest. I'll keep making informative posts

I do not know how to sew at all. but my friend - and she is a first-class seamstress - very many patterns. they have it hanging on a special wall and she always uses them when sewing

That is really cool @tali72, you could gain an interest by looking at her.

Looks like it will be a great outfit..Can't wait to see your finish items!
