Ein Waschfisch / Bath mitt "fish" #Needleworkmonday
Fische und Wasser gehören zusammen / A fish belongs in water
Die Idee an sich stammt nicht von mir. Ich hatte einen ähnlichen Fisch auf einem Foto gesehen und mir gemerkt. Später habe ich herausgefunden dass es in einem japanischen Buch wohl eine Anleitung in der Richtung gibt. An sich bedarf es aber keiner Anleitung - so ein Fisch ist einfach und schnell herzustellen.
I didn't come up with the idea myself. I had seen a similar fish in a photo and saved it. Later I found out that there is a pattern for a similar bath mitt in a Japanese book. However, no instructions are required - such a fish is easy and quick to knit.
Das Garn ist Schachenmayr Cleany, es geht aber auch z. B. mit einem klassischen Baumwoll-Topflappengarn.
The yarn I used is Red Heart Scrubby but you can use a not too thin cotton yarn.
Gestrickt wird in der Runde, angefangen mit einem einfachen 1 links, 1 rechts Bündchen - wie z. B. für Socken oder Ärmelabschluss. Danach jeweils 1 Runde rechts und eine Runde links, dabei nach jeder zweiten Runde die Farbe wechseln. Im letzten Drittel dieser Runden jeweils in der rechten Grundfarbenreihe 2 Maschen beidseits abnehmen. Zum Schluss eine rechte Reihe und danach in jeder Reihe seitlich abnehmen (wie bei einer Bändchenspitze) bis nur noch wenige Maschen über sind. Diese mit dem Maschenstich vernähen oder einfach mit dem Faden zuziehen.
You knit in the round and start with a 1x1 ribbing like you would for a sock. After that you knit one row and purl one row while changing the color after every purl row. In the last third of the knit/purl rows you decrease two stitches in every knit row of the main color. For the "fish head" you knit again in the round and decrease at the side like you would for a toe of a sock until there are only a few stitches left. Close the opening with Kitchener stitches or simply draw the stitches together with the end of the yarn.
Natürlich kann man den Fisch auch vom Kopf her beginnen - das strickt man dann wie bei von der Spitze aufwärts gestrickte Socken.
Of course you could start your fish at the head like you knit toe-up socks.
So ein Waschfisch ist schnell gestrickt, ideale Resteverwertung und ein schönes Geschenk.
This "washing fish" is a fast knit, perfect for using leftover yarn and a nice gift.

I guess unravelling would be tricky with that yarn, @muscara, but it's a great practical project idea.
What a fun project to do! I am looking up patterns for animals to do with small balls of left over yarn too :-)
I like this idea! Especially for using up leftover yarn. I have never crocheted with that type of yarn. Was it challenging to work with?
That yarn is easier to knit than to crochet but it works quite well if you use a hook a bit bigger than recommended and work loosely.

I love your Waschfisch. It turned out great 😀 what a fun project idea. I am going to look for a duck pattern because that would make bathtime so fun for my kids!
