The Romper Dilemma

Last week I showed you my dilemma in making a boy romper for my first grandson, who will be here in July. The first pattern turned out too girly! So I tried another pattern, and as you can see, it also turned out to be too girly!

I got very frustrated and un-inspired! It is all my fault though, because I like to do my knitting/crocheting in one piece! What to do? I went to the Thrift Store again, and picked up another bag of yarn! It seemed to get me out of my foul mood!!! Something about new yarn or new pictures just gets me back on track.

I decided to finish these two as dresses to either give away or waiting for the next grand child. So I kept on searching for that one particular boy romper pattern that I had in my mind! Someone must have it out there and must have the same exact thought as mine :-)

I came across this pattern, which I thought it would be perfect: https://mariannaslazydaisydays.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/kinzie-baby-romper.html and immediately set out to knit. Everything seemed to work out, not fanning, not too girly, and the stitches were easy to work with.

The first half of the romper went smoothly, and I was so happy that this is the only romper that assembled something a boy can wear without being mistaken for a girl.

Then the instruction got muddle after row 41 onward, but I kept on working. Soon I realize the pattern was on wrong..

So here is another romper dilemma! I will have to rework this piece and rework the pattern.

Oh nooo, I am so sorry. Both of your "girly" dresses are super cute and the knitted boy romper looks also very sweet. I like the variegate but muted yarn and it will be perfect for a boy. It is frustrating, that there are mistakes in the pattern. Do you have an idea what went wrong??
Sending you hugs!

Thank you so much, and yes I have figured it out, plus from row 41 onward, the K rows should be the purl rows, and then on "Row 65--Knit 43 turn"; missing a part that should said put the other 43 sts on holder.

I was not the only one that was lost after reading the comments..I still love this pattern though, as it is perfect for a boy romper or if you're an experienced knitter, you can use it to make a sweater or a cardigan.

Good you figured the problem out. And comments on ravelry are so helpful. How could people knit before? :-DDDD

From what I read, some have to figure it out themselves too :-)

The new romper will be nice once you figure out the pattern! And the cute girly ones will be great presents.

Thank you! Live and learn, right? lol...

I’m so glad you found another pattern to work with! Once you figure it out it will be just right for a little baby boy. I really like that one. The other two you have started are going to be lovely gifts!!! 😊 Don’t give up I know you’ll get this!!! 💕

Thank you for your vote of confident! I have to unravel the second part of this romper, and re-write the pattern and re-work the rows..Fingers cross..

😉🤞🏽

it is very insulting: so much work needs to be done again ;( as I understood, after all these dillem you will be an expert in knitting children's clothes - this is a big plus in such situations :) I hope you can successfully solve this issue with a pattern of knitting

Thank you, and I agree! I am learning, thinking, and working it out..I gain experience with this frustrations.

I'm sorry its been frustrating but you do beautiful work! I use to crochet but my tendinitis and bursitis won't let me do it anymore.

Thank you! I have tendinitis also in my wrists, and I wear wrists brace when I am working. My fingers though, are a different story.

I know you will achieve the goal, a little bit of patience, I think that started again, it will work. Regards

Thank you..yes, patience, I must have patience :-)

As one of the votes for "too girly" I love the new pattern. And there will always be a home for the girly ones, lots of little girly girls out there :)

Thank you...will save those for the girls! It was lot of work to not consider saving them :-)

You got ALL that yarn at a thrift store??? I'm so jealous!! Why can't my thrift stores have awesome stuff like that :-/ but I'm glad for you! :) I hope the romper starts working out better, because it looks very cute so far!

Yes, the whole bag for $5.00..It is where I got my yarn to stay on budget! I only frustration with buying yarn at the thrift store is rarely matched, and I have to mix match as closely as I can! Thank you so much!
